The City Council met
in a regular session on the 9th day of March at 7:00 PM in the
Council Room.

The Bar & Grill report was given by Paula McGarvey. February sales were
even with February 2008 sales. The council approved donations
from the Bar & Grill to the Family Festival and the Hmong New
Year Celebration. The council reviewed an estimate to put an
electric heater in the bathrooms. They would like to get more
information and will decide on this at a later date. The
council reviewed the Shetek Area Visitors guide and decided they
would not place a city ad in the brochure, however they would
like to see the Bar & Grill place an ad in it. The women’s pool
team reimbursed the Bar & Grill the $125 that the bar had paid
towards their pool jackets. The women’s team no longer shoots
out of the Bar & Grill.
Tom Hansen gave the
maintenance report. He has removed all the decals from the old
police car and it will be ready to be used as a city vehicle
after he replaces the battery and gets the windshield fixed.
Wes Bell gave the
Water/Wastewater Report. He is still waiting for the primary
clarifier to arrive so that he can get it repaired. Wes will be
receiving an award from the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency.
Mike Landuyt asked the
council to approve two new EMT candidates to attend the EMT-B
class in Westbrook. Motion by Xiong Yang, second by Jeff
Harnack to approve the payment of $1650 for the EMT-B class with
the agreement that both candidates will serve on the Walnut
Grove Ambulance Service for a period of 1 year. All voted in
favor, motion carried. The council asked Mike to update the
current policy on hiring and training new EMT’s to include an
age requirement of at least 18 by the time the candidate
finishes the class.
Andy Foster asked the
council to purchase a new hand held radio for the Civil Defense
Department. The council determined that Andy should use a radio
from the fire department
until the county
determines which radio frequency they will be using
The Police Report was
given by Mike Zeug. Travis Schaar is on administrative leave
with pay until further notice due to allegations of misconduct
which are being investigated by the office of the County
Attorney. Motion by Leonard McLaughlin, second by Jeff Harnack
for Mike Zeug to become the acting Chief of Police until there
is a disposition of this incident. All voted in favor, motion
carried. Mike will work between 25 and 40 hours each week and
will meet with the police committee for further discussion in
the next few weeks.

Harnack, second by Leonard McLaughlin to approve the Land Use
Permits submitted by Ruth Marth. All voted in favor, motion
carried.
The City Spring Clean
Up Day will be scheduled for either May 2 or May 9. There will
be a charge of $5 for appliances and electronics for Walnut
Grove Residents. Further details will be available at the City
Office.
Country View has
received $20200 in grant money from Rural Development for the
Home Free monitoring system they are having installed.
Discussion was held
about forming a 2010 Census Committee. Leonard McLaughlin and
Xiong Yang both agreed to head the committee.

Feb. 9, Feb. 26, Feb. 27 and March 2, 2009 Special Meetings.
All voted in favor, motion carried.
